The Wüthrich Group - the senior group of the institute

The Wüthrich research group was initiated in the then „Institut für molekulare Biologie chemischer Richtung“ in 1969. Its research projects are in structural biology and protein research, with a specialization in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Experimental work by the Wüthrich group is currently pursued also at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, USA (external pagehttp://www.scripps.edu/wuthrich) and at the iHuman Institute of ShanghaiTech University (external pagehttp://ihuman.shanghaitech.edu.cn/?page_id=226), where details of the current projects are available.

Research in Zürich

Experimental work using NMR in structural biology is pursued by a group of postdoctoral fellows and graduate students at ShanghaiTech University in China. We investigate structure and dynamics of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), thus exploring the molecular basis of their trans-membrane signaling and the foundations for the development of drugs that target GPCRs. Guiding this research and the editing of resulting publications are a large part of Prof. Wüthrich’s activities in his offices at ETH Zürich and at Scripps Research, California. At the ETH Zürich, he has started a new project of studies on sarcopenia and osteoporosis in the ageing human population.
